Senior Data Protection Specialist Controller / Peterborough / c£80K
We are currently partnered with a Financial Services organisation who are recruiting for a Senior Data Protection Specialist Controller to join them on a Fixed Term Contract basis.
The reason for the role coming live is that they are experiencing a large backlog of high-risk DPIA’s (Data Protection Impact Assessments) and need someone with a strong technical understanding to come in and support.
It will be split 50/50 between two different functions. The first being the Support Controller Team, which has a focus on the internal GDPR framework, and the second being the Migration Team who work with the on-boarding of new clients and the potential risks to Data Security.
This is a short-term replacement, so will initially be on a 6-month FTC with potential for the role to be extended/made permanent.
What you’ll be doing:
- Help the DP manager push forward and put into action the support needed as a Controller.
- Help the DP manager train and spread the word about data protection compliance.
- Support the TUPE deliveries related to transformation activities that are key to developing strategies (migration).
- Assist in creating BAU governance and processes as a Controller.
- Help manage BAU by working with internal teams, HR and procurement.
- Represent our team in corporate projects to ensure changes are GDPR/DP compliant.
- Oversee, appoint, and run regular meetings with Data Champions in Shared Services and coordinate with the Data Champions Manager.
- Review DPIAs from shared services or regulatory Change teams and suggest recommendations to the DP Manager and DPO.
- Approve privacy impact assessments when a full DPIA isn’t needed.
- Conduct audits and ensure shared services functions are UK GDPR compliant.
- Provide advice and support, if needed, to IT and Non-IT procurement to ensure compliance.
What we’re looking for
- A credible influencer of management who can propose and implement compliance solutions with the right level of personal impact.
- Able to represent their function at project meetings, forums, committees, and other general meetings with both clients and internally.
- Recognizes the privacy implications of business initiatives but has commercial awareness and can add value to proposed solutions.
- Capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with clients.
- Has a solid technical understanding of ICO requirements.
- Possesses sound knowledge of business processes and requirements for relevant business units.
- Experienced in working in a project environment or project management.
- Knowledgeable about GDPR/Data Protection Act 2018 and related privacy legislation.
